Library Lust
I came across this Kanazawa Umimirai Libray in Japan, designed by Japan based Kazumi Kudo and Hiroshi Horiba of Coelacanth K&H Architects, and had to share. Maybe it's ultimately my love of polka dots that first attracts me to this project, but as playful as it is, the spaces are also sophisticated and really quite elegant.
Translucent glass fills each of the 6000 holes, diffusing natural light into each of the spaces which creates a sense of emotional or almost spiritual richness. Take a look...

Road Trip!
I am so excited that I am soon to hit the road with a good friend of mine for a half-cross-country road trip! We leave on Sunday (so soon) and there are a hundred things to do before we depart on this great adventure (like, celebrate my birthday, for one!).
You can see our route below. We will be crossing west from Austin to the City of Angels and then up to Seattle for our final destination. I have driven the east coast (from Vermont to Florida) a good half dozen times, but I have never driven or even seen most all of the west coast - I couldn't be more excited about what I am going to see and experience for the first time!
It's also great that we, also, have a day or so to play with in our schedule, so maybe an extra day on one of these cities! This is definitely going to be a trip to remember!

Summer Hair
Well, it has officially been in the triple digits here in Austin for 11 consecutive days. Yes, it's hot. In fact, it's too hot to make a fuss over what you look like leaving the house. Of course I still apply my mascara each morning, but as far as standing in my small bathroom to curl or straighten, yea right buddy. And so, as a result, summer "beach" hair has been fully embraced.

Happy {Sparkly} 4th
I'm taking off for Vermont for this lovely holiday weekend and I can't be more excited to be back in the north east (not to mention be in one of my best friend's weddings!). Here are some of the colors of independence day in forms that make me smile. I hope you all have a wonderful red, white, and blue [and sparkly] weekend!
Cheers!

Feeling the need for a little adventure
I've been looking over my calendar and seeing what the summer has in store for me and I couldn't be more excited. I hope you all have a little adventure planed for yourselves as well.

Time for salad..
I think I look at this
article from The New York times, that I found a few years back, at
least once a summer when it gets to be about a hundred degrees outside -
not kidding - for those of us in Austin. 101 Simple Salads for the Season
has so many (one hundred and one, to be exact) awesome salad ides so that you can limit your time in
a hot kitchen and use fresh ingredients you may pick up from your local
farmers market! Check it out, and enjoy!

PS1 MOMA :: Young Architects Competition
This years winner for the PS1 Young Architects Program competition are a Brooklyn based design studio, Interboro Partners. Their design for this years installation is clean and simple and actually quite elegant. Having seen many of the summer installations, in person, this is one I am sad to miss. The installation, named Holding Pattern, will feature a twisted rope canopy stretched over the courtyard. I enjoy how it's a bit more interactive from the dance floor for the Warm Up Parties where the people can enjoy the summer music series and the art at the same time. Take a look below for images of what PS1 will turn into for the next few summer months (opening this June).

{I should also mention I love their website design.}
